F104Chapter of Dry Ablution (Tayammum)

How Many Obligatory Prayers May Be Prayed with One Dry Ablution

May one pray more than one obligatory prayer with a single dry ablution, or must it be renewed for each?

Hanafi

With his dry ablution he prays whatever obligatory and voluntary prayers he wishes, since it lifts the impurity; it is void only by a nullifier or by his becoming able to use water.

Maliki

With one dry ablution he prays only one obligatory prayer, and he performs it anew for each prescribed prayer; he may pray with it the voluntary prayers attached to that one.

Shāfiʿī

He does not join two obligatory prayers on one dry ablution; he performs it for each obligatory prayer, and with it may pray whatever voluntary prayers he wishes before and after.

Hanbali

The dry ablution is bound to the prayer time: within that time he prays with it whatever obligatory and voluntary prayers he wishes, and it is void once the time of the prayer he performed it for has gone.
