Ruling on praying with a slight impurity on the garment or the body
What is the ruling on the prayer of one who has a slight impurity on his body, his garment, or his place of prayer?
A heavy impurity up to the size of a dirham is pardoned, and a light one below a quarter of the garment or limb; the prayer is valid.
Removing impurity is obligatory when one remembers and is able — or, by the other well-known view, a sunnah; whoever prays with it forgetfully or being unable repeats the prayer within its time. Blood, pus or serous matter below a dirham is pardoned, with no repetition.
A slight impurity is not pardoned except what is hard to guard against, such as a little blood or pus and what the eye cannot detect.
A little blood, pus, or serous matter from a pure animal is pardoned; a little of anything else, such as urine or excrement, is not.
