Ruling on Smoking and What is Intentionally Inhaled During the Day of Fasting
What is the ruling on smoking and intentionally inhaling vapors and smoke during the day of Ramadan, and does it invalidate the fast?
The fast is invalidated by intentionally drawing smoke or incense into the body cavity, whatever the smoke may be, and qadaʾ is required. Kaffarah is also due for intentionally smoking tobacco, as Ibn ʿĀbidīn reports from al-Shurunbulālī.
The fasting person breaks their fast by the arrival of smoke, incense, and all intentionally inhaled substances to the throat and body cavity, and qadaʾ is obligatory upon them.
The fast is invalidated by the intentional arrival of any physical substance (such as smoke, incense, and inhaled matter that has substance) into the body cavity through an open orifice.
The fasting person breaks their fast by smoking and intentional inhalation if it reaches the body cavity, because it is a substance reaching the interior by their choice, thereby breaking the fast.
