F99Chapter of Ablution Nullifiers

One Whose Ablution Breaks During the Prayer: Does He Continue or Start Again?

If impurity overtakes him during the prayer without intent, does he purify and continue from where he was, or start the prayer again from the beginning?

Hanafi

One overtaken by impurity during his prayer without intent may purify and continue from where he was, provided he does nothing incompatible with prayer other than walking to purify; starting again is better.

Maliki

The prayer is void by impurity, whether deliberate, forgetful or involuntary; he must purify and start the prayer again from the beginning, and may not continue.

Shāfiʿī

His prayer is void by impurity, whether deliberate, forgetful or involuntary; he must purify and start the prayer again from the beginning, and does not continue from where he was.

Hanbali

The prayer is void by impurity, whether deliberate, forgetful or involuntary; he must perform ablution and start the prayer again from the beginning, and continuing is not valid.
