The Extent of a Man's ʿAwrah in the Prayer
What extent of a man's ʿawrah must be covered for the prayer to be valid?
A man's ʿawrah in the prayer is from below the navel to below the knee; the knee is part of the ʿawrah and the navel is not.
A man's grave ʿawrah is the two private parts, and the lighter ʿawrah is what lies between the navel and the knee; the prayer is invalidated by uncovering the grave, while uncovering the lighter is disliked; he repeats the prayer within its time for uncovering the buttocks or part of them, but not for uncovering the thigh.
A man's ʿawrah in the prayer is what lies between the navel and the knee; neither the navel nor the knee is part of it, and part of each must be covered so that what lies between them is certainly covered.
The ʿawrah of an adult man in the prayer is what lies between the navel and the knee, neither of which is part of it; and in an obligatory prayer covering one of the shoulders is also obligatory when he is able.
